The Rebel Wore Pearls: Interiors of Frances Elkins
From 1918 to the early 1950s, artist and designer Frances Elkins worked throughout the United States designing interiors—making her greatest impact on the Monterey Bay Peninsula. Creating avant-garde rooms and a new language for residential and public interiors, Elkins made her home in downtown Monterey and deeply connected with the rest of the artistic community there. This exhibition features selections of the distinctive combinations of photographs, art, objects, fabrics, and wallpapers that made Elkins a legendary interior designer.
