Past Exhibitions

Sacred Encounters presents an exploration into how photography engages with the sacred world, and the ways that photographers experience and express these ideas through portraiture, architecture, landscape and abstraction. The exhibition will feature a select group of California photographers working in a range of processes and in both black and white and color.  Participating photographers are Linda Connor, Eduardo Fujii, J. M. Golding, Roman Loranc, Richard Murai, Nadezda Nikolova, Manuello Paganelli and Kenneth Parker. From MMA's collection, artists include Ansel Adams, Morley Baer, Martha Casanave, Edward Curtis, Michael Kenna, Tom Millea, Franco Salmoiraghi, and John Wimberley.

Helaine Glick is an independent curator and art writer. She was an Assistant Curator at the Monterey Museum of Art, where she worked for over fifteen years. At MMA, she curated a range of collection and solo exhibitions, plus the major photography exhibitions, In Sharp Focus: The Legacy of Monterey Photography, and Bob Kolbrener In Real Time. She recently completed two terms as a Trustee at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel and was Chair of the Programs Committee. She has curated exhibitions for the Center for Photographic Art, Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, NUMU New Museum Los Gatos, and is a consultant for Winfield Gallery in Carmel. She has authored numerous essays for artist brochures, exhibition catalogues, and books.
