It was a moment of joy and honor when I heard I would have my photographic artwork included in the inaugural 2025 Monterey Biennial. Seeing my work listed among esteemed local artists was wonderful, an affirmation that my voice and perspective matter within this vibrant arts community. The opening reception was a lively celebration of creativity, where I had the chance to connect with fellow artists and audiences, exchanging insights and stories about our processes and passions. The care and intention woven into the entire exhibition were powerful, reflecting a deep support for the arts that runs through our region, initiated by MMA.

My piece in the show is a reflection of the unique place we call home—a visual narrative that captures the delicate balance between nature's synchronous beauty and the relentless pressures of technology in the Silicon Valley region. This photograph is of flower weeds in my hair. It is part of a new series of photographs and watercolor drawings entitled, Freedom & Fr(agility) and was inspired during many mornings when I yelled to my kids, 'just GO OUTSIDE!'" The work is meant to be playful yet a contemplative exploration of how we engage with our environment amidst the chaos of modern life. The photograph depicts a moment in my yard, where I've thrown aside schedules and expectations, instead choosing spontaneity. In the other artwork in the series I'm juggling avocados, highlighters, cupcakes, paperclips, and wildflowers—objects that symbolize either the rigidity of maintaining schedules to navigate modern life or those that point to a deeper connection to the essence of a celebrated existence.

The pieces are infused with a sense of liberation—an invitation to un-tame our routines and reconnect with primal instincts. It's about embracing the wild, the unpredictable, and the imperfect. In the image, I see a reflection of my internal dialogue: a desire to break free from the rigid timetables that confine us, to toss our burdens into the wind, and to find beauty in chaos. Whether it's flipping the traditional upside-down or placing contrasting elements together, I aim to evoke a sense of spontaneity and rawness—an acknowledgment that true connection often arises when we let go of control.

Being part of this exhibition has deepened my appreciation for the power of art to mirror our environment and our inner worlds. It's a reminder that creativity is a communal act—one that fosters connection, dialogue, and shared understanding. I am grateful to be included in a show that celebrates regional talent and supports the vibrant, resilient spirit of our community. This experience has inspired me to continue exploring the intersections of nature, technology, and human expression—knowing that my work, like the region itself, is a living, breathing testament to creativity, connection, resilience, and renewal.
