Learn the ancient art of extracting fibers from native plants and transforming them into beautiful string and thread. Dogbane, hemp, milkweed, and stinging nettle yield fibers of differing colors and were traditionally used by local indigenous Rumsen and Esselen peoples throughout the ages.

Meet the Artist

Linda Yamane is a master Ohlone basket maker and member of the local Rumsen Ohlone Tribal Community. She specializes in numerous other traditional Rumsen arts and technologies practiced by her Rumsen ancestors, keeping them alive for the future.
