Monterey Museum of Art Throws Heavy Metal Party

November 14 Arts Lounge@La Mirada
Celebrates The Lighter Side of Heavy Metal

Monterey Museum of Art
720 Via Mirada, Monterey

[MONTEREY, CA] Steel is the theme of the winter Arts Lounge@La Mirada, the after hours party for young professionals who, this month, are invited to a special one-night steel sculpture exhibition with DJ sounds and fabulous food and drink in the company of like minds at the vaulting La Mirada galleries of the Monterey Museum of Art. The event is sponsored by two Museum supporters, TMDcreative and Salinas Steel Builders. Beer is provided courtesy of Couch Distributors. The festivities begin at 7pm and continue till 10pm, Friday November 14.

Arts Lounge@LaMirada always has a creative element and this time includes a display of the industrial photography of Renee Balducci Houston, one of the “creatives” with TMDcreative. “She was shooting pictures of Salinas Steel Builders in action at some of their jobsites,” said Nick Pasculli, president of the Salinas-based full-service advertising agency. “They’re amazing pictures of a really fascinating process; that’s what led to us to this theme.” Pasculli approached three local steel sculptors, Todd Kruper of Sand City, CW Freedman, and Mark Bava. “In the works created for Arts Lounge@LaMirada, the artists were asked to work primarily with steel from Salinas Steel Builders’ scrapyard. At the first Arts Lounge we sponsored, we had a great time with a surfboard and skateboard theme—and in the middle of all the fun, we managed to introduce some up and coming young professionals to this great Museum. It’s a perfect match.”

Arts Lounge@La Mirada, 720 Via Mirada in Monterey is free to Monterey Contemporaries Members; $10 Non-Members, $5 Students and Military with Valid ID.
