Art After Hours

Monterey Museum of Art
559 Pacific Street, Monterey

[MONTEREY, CA] Day is done, the evening’s just begun, and you’re looking for the ultimate transition from daily demands to down time. It’s where to go and what to do. It’s where to see and be seen. It’s how to relax or how to rev up, and it’s on the way home or on the way out. It’s Art After Hours, the updated happy hour hosted every third Thursday at the Monterey Museum of Art from 5-7p.m.

Sponsored by Wald Ruhnke & Dost Architects, LLP, admission is free, and guests are welcome to enjoy an evening of fine art, great conversation, live music by ¾ Jazz Trio, and local wine, courtesy of Blazer Wilkinson, LP; plus light hors d’oeuvres catered by Bird of Paradise.

This month, enjoy a CloseUP of Evelyn McCormick’s masterful depiction of Sherman’s Headquarters in Monterey. View Elkhorn Slough: Photographs by Michael Kenna, presented in conjunction with the Elkhorn Slough Foundation. Take a look at a selection from the Museum’s vast collection of prints encompassing the works of many noted regional and international artists from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in Painters at the Press: Selected 20th Century Prints, an exhibition supported by a grant in Memory of Louise Bougie Beland from the John H. Marble Endowment Fund administered by the Community Foundation for Monterey County.
Don’t miss a small exhibition of Prints by Alexander Weygers, featuring a selection of his gems from the permanent collection. And make sure to spend time with Men, Ships and the Sea: Masterworks of California Painting by Armin Hansen and William Ritschel, an exhibition which examines the parallel lives and artistic accomplishments of two preeminent artists who defined California landscape painting. This exhibition is sponsored by Roberta Bialek, Gary and Mary Cary Coughlan, Alvarez Technology Group, Inc., Dr. Darnell M. Whitt II, John and Pam Wilkinson, The Monterey County Herald - Official Media Sponsor, Bonhams & Butterfields, and a Cultural Arts Grant from the City of Monterey.
