WORK BY LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER
Monterey Now: Loran List features dynamic multiple exposure and
montage/collage images of the female figure
Monterey, CA-The Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) announces the opening of Monterey Now: Loran List, July 13-September 23, 2012 at the MMA Pacific Street located at 559 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA. A reception with the artist will be held Thursday, July 19, 5-7 pm. www.montereyart.org.
Monterey Now is an exhibition series organized to present Monterey Bay area artists who have made significant contributions to the visual arts. Loran List is a long time Monterey Bay area photographer who works with film and traditional gelatin silver printing processes, and specializes in innovative camera techniques. The exhibition will include images featuring multiple exposure and montage/collage, focusing on the female figure.
List was not interested in making static photographs, but wanted his images to capture excitement, or tell a story. Motivated by a desire to portray a sense of movement and time, he experimented with multiple exposures, in which he photographed one subject several times on a single negative. This approach allowed him to construct the dynamic images he envisioned. His multiple exposure images express a creative spirit and understanding of every step of the photographic process.
