COVID-19Artboard 1-100Dear Friends of the Monterey Museum of Art

Executive Director, Stuart Chase, and I have been in daily communication and monitoring the rapidly progressing news encompassing COVID-19. The Monterey Museum of Art has remained open up until today, March 16. We have been a refuge for schoolchildren and guests who wanted to experience the beauty of California art and creativity, with proper social distancing, during this very stressful time. However, in following best practices, we will have to temporarily close our doors to guests through April 8 and postpone all public programming through the end of April.  Most of the staff will be working remotely, including Stuart. Also, Stuart is in contact with other museum colleagues around the nation and they are all problem solving together. We will continue to be creative and figure out how best to move forward for the next few weeks and months. In positive and adaptive news, the education department is working to create remote distance learning programs that we have been disseminating to the community and all of the parents who are now homeschooling. We will also be extending membership expiration dates in conjunction with our closure.  Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for up to date information and remote access to the Museum’s resources. We will also keep the MMA website updated with news and information regarding upcoming events.

Everyone is taking this one day at a time and we will continually reevaluate how we can best serve our community. Health is our greatest priority, and part of well-being is mental health. Thus, imbuing our members and families with creative projects that instill curiosity, joy, and learning is something we can all still do. We will keep you posted as we create options and further our mission of being a collaborative center where art and community engage…virtually for the time being!

Please stay safe and well and thank you for your continued support and participation.
