These are challenging times. But your creation and community can help!

Join MMA in the #IndexCardArt Challenge

Get ready to join artists and art lovers in creating some #IndexCardArt. Right now we’re all looking for ways to connect socially and alleviate our feelings of isolation. Let’s make some art together… with the #IndexCardArt challenge now underway on Facebook and Instagram.

Here’s what you do:

1. Using an index card or a 3×5” piece of paper create something/anything you like at home. It can be a drawing of your new favorite past time, a snapshot of your environment, or maybe something in your home you never noticed before. 2. Follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram.

3. Post a picture of your work, and/or an image of what inspired you, on Facebook or Instagram. Be sure to tag @monteryart and include the hashtags “#IndexCardArt #VirtualMMA #ArtCanHelp”.

4. When you can, mail your completed artwork to Index Art Card Challenge, 559 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA 93940. We will display all of your submissions in an installation at the Museum when we are open and able.

5. Tell your friends and family! Use Skype, Zoom, Facetime and more to share your thoughts on what inspired your piece. Comment on submissions from your fellow artists. Have fun! We’re all in this together!

6. Keep your eyes peeled. We’ll be sharing #IndexCardArt from you and some of our Currents/+FLUX artists on Facebook, Instagram, and the Making Waves MMA Blog.

No doubt, this is an unprecedented experience for us all. However, art allows us to process this experience as a community by creating and sharing art. It’s an extremely personal yet powerful form of thinking, expression, conveyance and more. We can’t come together physically but we can virtually and, by extension, spiritually. Spread the word throughout California and beyond. Our influence and art’s impact is boundless.

The art we create today will be our legacy. It will record and reveal so much more than a news article or history book. Let it show your personality, your humor, and your humanity.

Artfully Yours,

Stuart A. Chase
