The inaugural exhibition of the In Process series will feature works by Los Angeles-based Mark Licari, who will use the gallery as a vibrant laboratory. Licari will create an exhibition consisting of paintings, sculptures and site-specific drawings that weave together an elaborate, multi-dimensional narrative. In Process is a contemporary art series featuring current projects by emerging and mid-career artists. Supported in part by a grant from the Peter Norton Family Foundation, the Norris Foundation and VISA Foundation. General operating support is provided by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation. Sponsored by Peggy Alspaugh. Additional marketing support provided by an Arts Regional Initiative Grant from the James Irvine Foundation. Learn more about our In Process contemporary art series, the featured artists and their current projects, including a time-lapse video of Mark Licari working on his site-specific mural in our galleries at MMA La Mirada here.

Pam Carroll, Just Picked, 2009, oil on hardboard, collection of the artist
|
Pam Carroll considers herself a realist painter. Whether painting lemons, seashells or portraits, her approach is rigorous, as she carefully translates each feature of her subject, rendering it with painstaking accuracy. With her expert use of trompe l’oeil, a “fool the eye” painting technique, she can tantalizingly pull the viewer into a world of illusion, where the distinction between the tangible world and its more beguiling reflection is uncannily blurred. MontereyNOW is an exhibition series presenting local artists who have made significant contributions to the visual arts. This exhibition series is sponsored by Barbara and William Hyland.
