Tour Historic Del Monte Hotel
$25 for tour and wine reception

Your guide, John Sanders, special collections manager for the Naval Postgraduate School will lead this exclusive tour through the famous Del Monte Art Gallery where you will see Salvador Dali’s infamous “Night in the Surrealist Forest” and settings such as the Arizona Garden that were the subjects for paintings by Evelyn McCormick, August “Gus” Gay and others, as well as photographers ranging from C.W.J. Johnson to Isaiah Taber and Julian “Spike” Graham. 

You will experience the graceful Spanish Revival décor designed by renowned architect Lewis Hobart, which includes decorative art by Julian Garnsey. Tour rooms of masterpieces by Francis McComas, Daniel Sayre Groesbeck and Jo Mora, and discuss the lost art of Armin Hansen, Paul Whitman and Moira Wallace.

We will end the evening with wine and hors d’oeuvres in the hotel’s former lounge, referred to by Keeler’s Hotel Weekly as “a most admirable anteroom to the splendid dining room.”

Friends, $75

The chartered bus will depart from the MMA La Mirada at 8:30 am and return by 6 pm. The $75 fee will defray the cost of transportation and includes museum admission.
