Family Day at the Monterey Museum of art
Explore, create and play in the galleries while discovering the world of art. Admission is free.

Monterey, Calif. – The Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) invites families to explore, create and play in the galleries while discovering the world of art at the MMA La Mirada, admission free on Saturday, November 19, 11 am to 4 pm. The Monterey Museum of Art-La Mirada is located at 720 Via Mirada, Monterey.

As part of the MMA’s commitment to reaching children and families throughout the community, the Museum is offering a full slate of activities for all ages designed for fun, learning and sharing time together. This Family Day is inspired by exhibitions of works by pop artist Andy Warhol, abstract painter John Haley and the satirical visual statements of Enrique Chagoya. What to do that day:

  • Pop into Andy Warhol’s Factory, a creative space for adults and children.
  • Hear stories of cats, soup and other wonderful subjects at 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.
  • Make a screen-fold book like those of ancient May and Aztec cultures of Mexico.
  • Become abstracted by artist John Haley’s paintings then draw your own abstract image.
  • Rely on Gottardo Piazzoni’s final murals for inspiration before designing your own mural.
  • Search the galleries and gardens to find “hidden” shapes and images on a scavenger hunt.
