Carmel Valley resident Kathryn Greenwald grew up on the Monterey Peninsula, studied art at UC Santa Cruz, received her MA in painting from Humboldt State University, and taught art at all levels. Her recent work using monotype printmaking processes is an extension of her exploration of painting media over four decades. The colors shaping her landscapes are subjective yet rooted in what she perceives. The energy of each mark and brushstroke exists with its own vitality and network of harmonics beyond the terrain referenced. Living between abstraction and representation, her images address themes of place and refuge. Greenwald exhibited in MMA’s Currents gallery in November of 2018.
