Speaker: Dr. Todd Samra

2017 celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the Monterey International Pop Festival, from June of 1967, an event that paved the way for such music festivals as Woodstock two years later, and the counter-culture movement. This lecture will examine the music and musical artists of this monumental event, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Ravi Shankar, and the further development of Rock & Roll that would follow.

Dr. Todd Samra is the resident Musicologist for the Monterey Symphony and the Director of Music at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Corral de Tierra. In addition, he teaches private voice and piano, and courses through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at CSUMB (OLLI). Formerly, he served as professor of music at St. Joseph’s College in Indiana, and earned his Doctor of Arts degree from Ball State University, and a Master of Music from the University of Missouri.
