Do art. Be kind.* with Meg Biddle and Marcia Perry

What happens when two artists decide to start an arts nonprofit in middle of their own careers? – A really wonderful artistic and cultural experiment called Youth Arts Collective (YAC). Hear about Perry and Biddle’s art backgrounds and what it takes to do this. Founded in 2000, YAC is year round art studio and sanctuary which mentors future generations of driven young high school and college artists in the Monterey Bay area in art, job, and life skills. YACsters work from their own ideas, in a collective of peers, mentored by professional artists. Alumni have gone one to the arts, business, medicine, education, and journalism. YAC is a life-changing (sometimes life saving) escort to their best creative selves. It’s also one of the more entertaining places to be in the afternoons because YACsters don’t hold back in work or conversation. www.yacstudios.com

Marcia’s art career started in Colorado in 1972.  A self taught artist, she utilizes the airbrush to make murals, illustrations, product design and fine art paintings. Marcia also paints with pastels, makes mobiles, sculpts with porcelain, and is a published children’s book illustrator and author. (“Here on Earth” and “maggie and milly and molly and may”)  ”I create art to promote a kinder, more colorful world. I like the beautiful truths. My art is my love made visible”

Meg and Marcia created Biddle Perry Studios in 1981 and moved to Monterey in 1990, where they created many public murals together.

Meg is a cartoonist/illustrator/painter. Her work focuses on culture, politics, cats, philosophy and the absurd. She’s published regularly in FunnyTimes, a member of Women Who Draw, author of Little Biddle Books, and co-founder of Youth Arts Collective(YAC). She has also recently joined Cartoon Movement, an international publishing platform for high quality political cartoons and comics journalism. Her BFA is from California College of Art. https://www.megbiddleart.com
