Summer Art Camps for Kids

RTPL0358The Monterey Museum of Art offers Summer Camps for children ages five through sixteen. Bring a healthy snack, a bottle of water, wear old clothes or bring an apron, and let’s get creative at camp! Children remain on-site at our Pacific Street location the duration of the camp.                                        

Join MMA at the $125 Contributor Membership level to receive a discounted price per class and MMA member benefits for one year.

Age Policy: If a student turns the appropriate age by the end of August, they can join the camp. For example, a 4 year old student turning 5 at the end of August can join a camp for 5 to 6 year old students.

 

Five-Day Art Camps

Little Inklings
Ages 5 to 8

Let your imagination loose in this fun, creative printmaking class where you can design and create your own linocut prints, batik, sun prints and even create your own tote bag!

June 18 – June 22, 2018

Seedlings
Ages 5 to 8

Get your hands dirty in this fun week of indoor and outdoor nature projects including gardening, mosaics, flower pressing, and other nature-inspired creative projects–with a little science tossed in as well.

Creature Creations
Ages 5 to 8

Take a walk on the wild side! This week you’ll sculpt, paint, draw and collage your favorite animals, bugs and imaginary critters while experimenting with different art media and techniques.

Mind Over Medium
Ages 12 to 16

Tap into your genius with this workshop for teens that helps develop your creative unconscious, opening new pathways to ideas. Also learn how to incorporate form, composition, value, color, and even technology into your art.

Five-Day LEGO® Camps
June 11 – June 15, 2018
9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Robotics using LEGO® WeDo®
Ages 6 to 8

Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO® WeDo® system. Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components. Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors. This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for our more advanced Robotics programs.

Cost $215 members, $235 non-members.

Robotics using LEGO® EV3
Ages 9 to 12

Build and program robots using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups, program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun.

Cost $215 members, $235 non-members.

STEM Challenge with LEGO®
Ages 8 to 12

Level up your engineering skills with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through engineer-designed projects such as: Gear Cars, Gondolas, Merry-Go-Rounds, and Scissor Lifts. Design and build as never before, and explore your craziest ideas in a supportive environment. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Stop-Motion Moviemaking with LEGO®
Ages 8 to 12

Learn how to bring your LEGO® creations to life! Create skits and plots, learn how to make storyboards for planning scenes, build intricate LEGO® sets and characters from tens of thousands of LEGO® pieces, and learn how to animate and edit footage on computers (also adding voices and sound effects)! At the end of class, students receive animations through internet sharing!

Mine, Craft, Build: Adventure Game with LEGO®
Ages 5 to 7

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® bricks! Resourcefulness, creativity, and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game; roll the dice to mine for resources, and use these resources to build special items to help in our adventures! Build a Zoo, create a Medieval Castle, and design a Tree House Village! This experience is an original game designed by Play-Well instructors inspired by the popular game, Minecraft. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or the LEGO® building system.

Cost $180 members, $200 non-members.

Mine, Craft, Build Survival Game with LEGO®
Ages 7 to 11

Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® bricks! Resourcefulness, creativity, and cooperation come together in this unique building adventure game; roll the dice to mine for resources, craft tools, and watch out for Creepers! This ultimate LEGO Minecraft experience is an original game designed by Play-Well instructors, using gameplay elements and characters inspired by the popular Minecraft video game. Students will have a blast, even without any prior experience with Minecraft or LEGO® materials.

Cost $180 members, $200 non-members.

Refund Policy: Refunds can be given if Monterey Museum of Art is notified at least 72 hours before the event begins. A 25% service charge will be assessed to each event cancellation. No refunds will be given for cancellations less than 72 hours before the event begins. Full refunds will be given if event is cancelled by MMA. Camps may be canceled if there is low enrollment. You will be contacted within one week of the camp if this is the case.

Transfers can be made for classes: MMA will transfer your payment from one class to another class (of the same price) if the transfer request is received at least 72 hours before the class begins.
