Summer Art Camps for Kids

RTPL0358The Monterey Museum of Art offers Summer Camps for children ages five through fourteen. Bring a healthy snack, a bottle of water, wear old clothes or bring an apron, and let’s get creative at camp! Children remain on-site at our Pacific Street or La Mirada location the duration of the camp.                                        

Join MMA at the $125 Contributor Membership level to receive a discounted price per class and MMA member benefits for one year.

Age Policy: If a student turns the appropriate age by the end of August, they can join the camp. For example, a 4 year old student turning 5 at the end of August can join a camp for 5 to 6 year old students.

Family Adventure Photography Camp with Weston Collective

June 15 – June 19

Ages 10 to 14, accompanied by adult

9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Pack up your kids or grandkids for adventure photography with Zach Weston of the world-renowned Weston Collective.  In collaboration with MMA, Zach will teach film and digital photography on location around the peninsula and in the darkroom.  What better way to spend quality time as a family.  Space is limited, so sign up soon!

Cost $450 members, $500 not-yet-members, $150 per additional child

Texture Exploration

June 22 – June 26

Ages 5 to 8

9:00 am – 12:00 noon

Explore texture, and learn how to create a tactile experience through art!  Learning how to create the illusions of texture to design art that’s smooth, silky, slippery, spongy, scaly…you get the point!

Cost $180 members, $200 not-yet-members

For a full day of art and fun, select the All Day ticket option to include ArtLab camp from 1pm-4pm! Students enrolled in the afternoon camp ArtLab have the option to stay at the Museum for a supervised break from 12pm-1pm.

Bring your young artist (or scientist) to the museum for five days of FUNky STEAM art projects! We’ll use wacky ingredients like sandpaper, glue and baking soda to make cool, kooky masterpieces!

Up, Up, and Away!

June 29 – July 3

Ages 5 to 8

9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Head in the clouds? Take a leap and create artwork inspired by all things that fly! Butterflies, rocket ships, dragons, and birds! Art and science concepts are incorporated in projects such as collage, sculpture, and mixed media to get things soaring.

Branching Out

July 13 – July 17 (at La Mirada Cultural Center)

Ages 5 to 8

9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Explore nature by making art outside with unconventional materials that last for five minutes to five-hundred years. Create art to preserve nature in this STEAM-centered camp, and discover the world around us!

Spinning Yarns: Storytelling through Textile & Embroidery

July 20 – July 24

Ages 10 to 14

11:00 am – 4:00 pm

Create a collaborative story with your classmates, then tell it visually through textile and embroidery. Dye and print your own textiles, and learn to sew non-traditional materials.

Discover all things pop art!  Whether cartooning, creating comics, or making a mural, learn about the top Pop masters by creating your own art for the masses.

Five-Day LEGO® Camps

LEGO® Summer Camp: Lift-Off with LEGO® Materials

June 8 – June 12

Ages 5 to 7

9:00 am-12:00 noon

Do you wish you could fly? Do you dream of breaking the sound barrier, or landing on Mars? Then this camp is for you! Build LEGO models of every kind of flying machine, from wings that flap like a bird’s, to P-51 Mustangs, Stealth Bombers, and NASA rockets. Then discover how real-world aircraft and spacecraft actually fly!

Cost $180 members, $200 non-members.

Bring your craziest ideas to life with Play-Well TEKnologies and tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as: chugging Steamboats, enchanting Moon Bridges, and bustling Airports. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas.

 Animal Architects with LEGO® Materials

 

July 6 – July 10

Ages 5 to 7

9:00 am-12:00 noon

Let your imagination run wild with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts as we design and build leaping dolphins, buzzing beehives, and towering giraffes. Play, create, and learn in a world inspired by the animal kingdom. Design and build as never before and explore your craziest ideas.

Cost $180 members, $200 non-members.

Junkyard Challenge with LEGO® Materials

July 6 – July 10

Ages 8 to 12

1:00 pm- 4:00 pm

Use Play-Well’s massive LEGO® “junkyard” and apply real world STEM concepts to design innovative solutions for our custom challenges. Launch a container over shark infested waters, rescue an explorer stranded in the mountains, and design a car that drives upside down. Our Play-Well instructors help you engineer unique design solutions to fun filled activities.
