We’re all comics. We live in a comic time. And the worse it gets the more comic we are. –William Gaddis

My studio practice is primarily concerned with paintings that exist in the liminal space between representation and abstraction. Most of my abstract paintings are based on images, and most of my observational paintings incorporate formal ideas indebted to nonobjective modernist painting. Absurdist humor, melancholy and the anarchistic pleasure of art for art’s sake are common threads through most of my work.

Sam is a visual artist and musician based in Albany, CA. In 2007 he received a BFA in painting from The Rhode Island School of Design. Sam was a master printer at Crown Point Press in San Francisco from 2015 to 2019, and was previously a master printer at Paulson Bott Press in Berkeley, CA from 2007-2014. He is also one of the founders of Ghost Town Brewing in Oakland, CA.
