: Miniatures
Miniatures is the Monterey Museum of Art’s annual fundraiser featuring an exhibition by local and regional artists who generously donate their art work in support of the Museum.
Here’s how it works:
- Each September the Museum uploads an entry form for the Miniatures event on the website’s special Miniatures page. Because the exhibition fills its limit of 300 artists in a single day, we announce this date in advance in several email blasts and in a postcard sent to all Museum members and to past participating artists.
- The online entry form goes live at 9 am on chosen date, and when 300 artists are the entry form is removed from the website. The next day a list of participating artists goes up in its place. As an alternative, artists without computer access may apply in person at the Museum.
- Participating artists deliver their donated artworks to the Museum during the month of October. The art exhibition opens to the public in mid-November and runs through the end of the year.
- The exhibition enables the Museum to showcase the extraordinary richness and diversity of art work in our area, and artists have the opportunity show their work to a Museum audience.
- The fundraiser functions as a raffle. Tickets are sold for $5 apiece or $30 for a sheet of seven. Each artwork has its own box installed below it. Visitors enter by depositing their tickets in the boxes associated with their favorite pieces.
- On the first Monday in January of the New Year one ticket is drawn from each box. The person holding that ticket wins that artwork. Winners are notified by email or telephone and winning ticket numbers are posted on the website.
- All funds raised from ticket sales go to support Museum programs.
New this year:
- Beginning in 2012, the Miniatures fundraiser-exhibition will be open to Museum members only. (Participants must also be over 18 years of age and current California residents.) If you’re not now a member or if your membership has expired, please consider joining the Monterey Museum of Art and becoming a part of your local arts organization. - If you are a member and would like to participate in this fundraiser but have not done so in the past, please send your name, mailing address and email address to miniatures@montereyart.org. Your information will be added to the mailing list and you will receive a postcard with all of the pertinent dates for the 2012 event.
